our ancestors liked to build walls. they built walls in beijing, xi’an, nanjing and many other cities, and they built the great wall, which snakes across half our country. they built walls to protect against enemies and evil irits. this tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public.

for a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me.

my perceptions, however, changed after i made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city. my classmates and i were walking with some foreign students. as we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which formed a wide canopy above our heads. suddenly one foreign student asked me, “where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”

“we’re already in the eastern suburbs,” i replied. he seemed taken aback, “i thought you chinese had walls for everything.” his remark set off a heated debate. at one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while i insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in china that had no walls.that debate had no winners, but i did learn a lot from this student. for instance, he told me that some major universities like oxford and cambridge were not surrounded by walls. i have to admit that we do have many walls in china, and as we develop our country, we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible. we will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development.

a year ago, when i was working on a term paper, i needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. however, the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “you can’t borrow this book, you’re not a student here.” in the end, i had to end 200 yuan to buy a copy. meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf.

at the beginning of this semester, i heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities, so my experience wouldn’t be repeated. barriers would be replaced by bridges. an inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library. with globalization and china integrated into the world, i believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.

i know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. but one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to china’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their role in the modern world.

and how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? should we tear them down? definitely not. my city, like beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. these walls attract historians, archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage. walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. if the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls. they are now bridges that link east and west, south and north, and all countries of the world. our cultural heritage will survive globalization.

complicated. is fortune success? is fame success? is high social status success? no, i don’t think so. i believe success is the realization of people’s hopes and ideals.nowadays, in the modern society there are many people who are regarded as the successful. and the most obvious characteristics of hem are money, high position and luxurious life. so most people believe that s success and all that they do is for this purpose. but the problem is wether it is real success. we all know there are always more money, higher position and better condition in front of us. if we keep chasing them, where is the end? what will satisfy us at last? therefore, we can see, to get the real success we must need something inside, which is the realization of people’ hopes and ideals.

different people have different ideas about success; cause people’s hopes and ideas vary from one another. but i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of reonsibility. these are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here eaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.

what is success? everyone has his own interpretation as i do. but i am sure every success leads to an ever-brighter future. so ladies and gentlemen, believe in our hopes, believe in ourselves, we, every one of us, can make a successful life!

Catch the star that holds your destiny, the one that forever twinkles within your heart. Take advantage of precious opporyunities while they still sparkle before you. Always believe that your ultimate goal is attainable as long as you commit yourself to it.

Though barriers may sometimes stand in the way of your dreams, remember that your destiny is hiding behind them. Accept the fect that not everyone is goimg to approve of the choices youve made, have faith in your judgement, catch the star that twinkles in your heart, and it will lead you to your destinys path. Follow that pathway and uncover the sweet sunrises that await you.

Take pride in your accomplishments, as they are stepping stones to your dreams. Understand that you may make mistakes, but dont let them discourage you. Value your capabilities and talents for they are what make you truly unique. The greatest gifts in life are not purchased, but acquired through hard work and determination. Finding the star that twinkles in your heart for you alone are capable of making your brightest dreams come true.

So dont think that you are neglected, or not understood, or not appreciated. zsuch thoughts are the thoughts of failure.

Dont pity yourself, criticise yourself. You know that the only thing in the world that you have got to count upon is yourself.

In the center of your heart and my heart there’s a wireless station : so long as it receives messages of beauty , hope ,cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long as you are young .

When the aerials are down , and your spirit is covered with snows of cynicism and the ice of pessimism, then you are grown old ,even at 20 , but as long as your aerials are up ,to catch waves of optimism , there is hope you may die young at 80.

　什么是梦想：

怎样实现自己的理想：

当下的年轻人怎样实现自己的人生理想？以我个人的经历看，有四点必须具备：

1、方向是走向成功的第一个指标，方向不是目标，目标有终点，而方向永远没有终点。 什么是方向？方向就是你为什么而奋斗。方向其实是清晰而模糊的，是具有辐射性的。只不过，主线一定是你的大方向。一个人的方向是可以改变的，不过改变的代价也是很大的，改变方向以后等于又在新的方向上回到了起点。所以，对于我而言，方向是非常重要的。即使我们自己很笨，只要坚持一个正确的方向，也会取得不错的成果的

2、目标是清晰的，方向是模糊的。很多人对生活和人生感到迷茫，其实是他失去了目标。我起初的目标是非常朴实的，简单的，甚至自私的，但是这些目标是为了不断实现更大目标的必经之路。

3、意愿对于个人而言是非常重要的，意愿越大，成功的机会也就越大。意愿就是一个人为了实现目标而付出行动力的决心。我们常说人要有压力，压力纯粹就是自欺欺人的，压力从来就没有和行动力以及目标和结果有过任何实际的联系，有压力而无所作为的人中国可以找出10多亿来，只有通过意愿变成超强的行动力，而产生出结果和实现目标的才是有价值的。没有行动力，压力就是人最大的阻碍和自我欺骗的口头禅而已。压力喊得越多，行动力也就越差。变压力为行动力，而行动力的根源来自于意愿，意愿强烈才可以实现目标。一个人基本的做事方法取决于三个步骤：（1）意愿；（2）过程，包括方法、技能等等；（3）目标、结果。其实每个人都不缺少方法，太多的方法和机会都摆在你面前，你根本就看不到，因为你根本就没有意愿。

4、方法本身并不重要，为了实现目标而存在的方法是最重要的。我们最不缺的就是方法，但最缺的也是方法。如何把自己的方法有效地传递给别人，将是一项非常大的挑战。对于一般人而言，只有自己有强烈的意愿去实现目标的时候，就非常容易接受别人给予的方法，甚至自己去找寻方法，所以获取正确的方法的前提是目标和意愿的存在。对于不一般的人，他具备很好的学习和聆听能力，把所有的方法变成自己的，在实现目标的环节中最恰当地来使用。方法一定要在别人需要的时候再给予，如果别人根本不需要方法，而你单方面地向对方灌输方法，那么这个效果则是负面的，对方不但不接受你的方法，反而会反感你。

例：众所周知，邓亚萍从小就酷爱打乒乓球，她梦想着有朝一日能够在世界赛场上大显身手。却因为身材矮小，手腿粗短而被拒于国家队的大门之外。但她并没有气馁，而是把失败转化为动力，苦练球技，持之以恒的努力终于催开了梦想的花蕾——她如愿以偿站上了世界冠军的领奖台。在她的运动生涯中，她总共夺得了18枚世界冠军奖牌。邓亚萍的出色成就，不仅为她自己带来了巨大的荣耀，也改变了世界乒乒坛只在高个子中选拔运动员的传统观念。

　如何面对挫折：

人生在世，谁都会遇到挫折，适度的挫折具有一定的积极意义， 它可以帮助人们驱走惰性，促使人奋进。挫折又是一种挑战和考验。 英国哲学家培根说过：“超越自然的奇迹多是在对逆境的征服中出现 的。”关键的问题是应该如何面对挫折。

人在遭遇挫折时，往往会感到缺乏安全感，使人难以安下心来， 工作和生活都会受到影响。那么，人在遭受挫折的时候，又应如何进 行调试呢？以下十种方法，不妨一试： 第一，沉着冷静，不慌不怒。 第二，增强自信，提高勇气。

第三，审时度势，迂回取胜。所谓迂回取胜，即目标不变，方法 变了。

第四，再接再厉，锲而不舍。当你遇到挫折时，要勇往直前。你 的既定目标不变，努力的程度加倍。

第五，移花接木，灵活机动。倘若原来太高的目标一时无法实现， 可用比较容易达到的目标来替代，这也是一种适应的方式。

第六，寻找原因，理清思路。当你受挫时，先静下心来把可能产 生的原因寻找出来，再寻求解决问题的方法。

第七，情绪转移，寻求升华。可以通过自己喜爱的集邮、写作、

书法、美术、音乐、舞蹈、体育锻炼等方式，使情绪得以调适，情感 得以升华。

第八，学会宣泄，摆脱压力。面对挫折，不同的人，有不同的态 度。有人惆怅，有人犹豫，此时不妨找一两个亲近的人、理解你的人， 把心里的话全部倾吐出来。从心理健康角度而言，宣泄可以消除因挫 折而带来的精神压力，可以减轻精神疲劳；同时，宣泄也是一种自我 心理救护措施，它能使不良情绪得到淡化和减轻。

第九，必要时求助于心理咨询。当人们遭遇到挫折不知所措时， 不妨求助于心理咨询机构。心理医生会对你动之以情，晓之以理，导 之以行，循循善诱，使你从“山穷水复疑无路”的困境中，步入“柳 暗花明又一村”的境界。

第十，学会幽默，自我解嘲。“幽默”和“自嘲”是宣泄积郁、 平衡心态、制造快乐的良方。当你遭受挫折时，不妨采用阿Q的精神胜 利法，比如“吃亏是福”、“破财免灾”、“有失有得”等等来调节 一下你失衡的心理。或者“难得糊涂”，冷静看待挫折，用幽默的方 法调整心态。

大家的梦想，也许是二十岁的豪情壮志；也许是青春期的迷茫与冲动；也许只是一份平淡的渴望：渴望掌声，渴望成功。无数的“可能”，无数的“希望”，因为大家的青春岁月充满奇迹，大家心中大大小小的梦，在生活的每一个角落里芬芳弥漫。

亲爱的朋友们，回眸自己走过的路，还记得每一个梦想带来的悸动，在生命中留下了怎样的足迹吗？

人们常说，有志者，事竟成；还有人说，最贫的是无才，最贱的是无志。由此可见立志的重要性，所以，人不可没有梦想。雄鹰和母鸡都有一对翅膀，但雄鹰可以搏击蓝天，而母鸡只能扑腾于庭院。其根本原因就在于，母鸡的理想是一把米糠，雄鹰的理想是展翅翱翔！所以，大家立志就要立大志，志当存高远！

大家青年人好幻想，每个人都有自己美好的梦想。但如果不经过奋斗，那梦想终究是梦想，绝无实现的可能。大家一定听说过“蜀鄙二僧朝南海”的故事。穷和尚和富和尚都立志要去南海，结果穷和尚凭一瓶一钵去成了南海，而富和尚“数年来欲买舟而下，犹未能也”。原因何在？就在于穷和尚勇于立志，更勇于践行志向；富和尚则只敢想，却不敢做。

心动不如行动，努力永远不会太迟！让大家马上行动起来吧！做一件事情，只要开始行动就可算是获得了成功的一半。演讲大师齐格勒曾说过这么一段充满哲理的话：

世界上牵引力最大的火车头停在铁轨上，为了防滑，只需在它的八个驱动轮前面各塞一块一寸见方的木块，这个庞然大物就无法动弹。然而，一旦火车头的时速达到100公里，一堵5英尺厚的钢筋混泥土墙也能被它轻而易举地撞穿！从几块小木块就可令其无法动弹到能撞穿一堵钢筋混泥土墙，火车头威力变得如此巨大，原因不是别的，就因为它“动”起来了。

其实，人的威力也会变得巨大无比，许多令人难以想象的障碍也会被你轻松地突破。当然前提是：你必须开始奋斗。奋斗是万物之父，，只要你肯努力奋斗，是没有不成功的。人都有惰性，都有太多的欲望，有时难免战胜不了身心的卷怠，抵御不住世俗的诱惑。很多人因此半途而废，功亏一篑。须知只有早日改掉这个陋习，才能离梦想更近一步。

古希腊最著名的雄辩家狄摩西尼原有口吃毛病，他每天口含一石子对着大海演讲，经过艰苦卓绝的努力而成为一位伟大的演说家。他为了使自己能专心一致的工作，剪掉了自己一大半头发，这使他很长时间不能出门，不能会客，于是工作效率大为提高。当一个人没有退路可逃时，他就只能一门心思地朝前奔了。大家应该向狄摩西尼学习，斩断自己的退路，破釜沉舟，勇往直前！

大多数人都想改造这个世界，却罕有人想改造自己。其实改造自己才是最难的事情。只要大家每天改变一点点，每天进步一点点，大家离成功，离腾飞的日子就会更近一点。

One of the difficulities to an international resolution to environmental issues is the difference in individual nations view and policies toward environmental protection。 In order for international cooperation to occur and succeed， the nations of the world must submit themselved to international standards and supervision by an international mission elected by the participating nations of the world。 All members must agree to abide by the standards established。

The environmental issues facing each country are not unrelated to the well being of the rest of the world。 The impact is long term and international in scope。 Without international cooperation and agreement to address such environmental issues as glacial melting at the South Pole， depletion of the ozone layer， water pollution， air polution， etc。， the environmental conditions of the world will deteriorate to the detriment of every nation， not just those that ignore or lack the resources and technology to resolve their individual environmental problems。

有孩子担心：既然中考这么重要，是不是中考成绩不理想，我的人生就失败了呢？当然不是。中考成绩，说明不了你的性格、说明不了兴趣、说明不了学习能力、说明不了潜力、说明不了你的未来。考试成绩仅仅是此时此刻的你对这张试卷、这个项目内容所展示的知识掌握、运用情况的一种反应。但中考在帮助你提升人格品质，这是对你的当下和未来发展非常非常重要的。

以情绪品质为例，管理好自己的情绪，才能安心学习的，会有助于取得中考好成绩。以身体品质为例，作息规律、营养均衡，才能保证精力旺盛，体育考试考得好，中考也会更好。未来呢？未来也会更好。

二、用心支持孩子

中考来临，孩子的压力还是比较大的。刚刚考完实验，有孩子问老师：老师，你觉得我的中考还有希望吗？我还能有个高中上吗？
