Thank you very much!非常感谢！在接下来的时间里，我将和大家一起分享一下学英语的苦辣酸甜。最主要的，是想通过我在北大六年教学经历、美国六年生活经历、“新东方”六年教学经历，来和大家交流一下怎能样尽快的提高大家的listeing and speaking comprehensions.

我的经历具体是这样的：我是1980年从内蒙古考到北大的，比大家高了好多届。我在北大学英文，然后又在北大教书。教书六年之后，在1990年，我求学到美国。我发现到了，美国一下飞机，我一句话也听不懂。当时我想，至少我学了几年英文，所以打算继续学英文。正在我在考虑到哪里去的时候，我听到一种说法，叫做everybody in American can speak English。那么我又怎么能够在美国赚钱呢？所以，我必须改变这个想法。于是我该学了学计算机。计算机硕士毕业以后，我在美国的贝尔实验室做了两年的软件工程师。在1995年，“新东方”的创始人俞敏洪来到了美国，在他的建议下，我有回国，开始参加“新东方”的创建。我和俞敏洪在北大是同班同学——“新东方”的五个“创业元老”里有三个是北大的同学。除了我们两个还有一个是“新东方”的图书总策划包凡一老师，他是“新东方”的写作专家。我在大学时代是他们的班长，他们两个当时是全班最落后的学生。我那时的主要精力和时间都花在每天晚上陪他们两个在湖畔散步，劝

他们不要跳下去。我告诉他们说：“你们将来一定会成才的。”到了96年，我在新东方担任副校长的时候，有一个大学生就问我说：“王老师，你上大学时四年都是他们的班长，你现在却是他们的副校长，你的心理平衡怎么找？”我说：“不用找，我现在心理是最平衡的。我当初当班长最大的夙愿就是帮助这两个后进青年成才。今天看到他们已经纷纷成才了，我的夙愿已经了了。平衡彻底找到了。”——我们的确都要找到一个平衡的方法，只有心态平衡下来，你才能够干成伟大的事业。

在美国的时候我学计算机之前，还有一段小插曲。那就是我险些报考了哈佛的人力学系。我离开北大之后，吸引我的学校只有两所，一所是英国的牛津大学，就是Oxford University；另一所呢就是Harvard University。那时候，哈佛大学人力学系的系主任，对我进行了面试之后觉得可以录取我，并且提出可以给我提供五年的Scholarship。他说：“你只要答应我一个条件，”我说：“什么条件？”——这个教授研究的是非常偏的一个科目，所以招生好多年都没有找到一个合适的学生。他是在人力学系研究中国文化中苗族文化的。——他说：“只要你跟我学苗语，我就给你奖学金。”我说：“可以。”但是，我冷静下来之后想：我拿了这些钱，在五年之内，过的是天上人间的日子。就算不能从哈佛大学毕业，也能够肄业。将来至少能够跟孙子夸口说，爷爷当年进过哈佛。但是这还不行，因为我拿到这个学位，最终的目的是要找个饭碗。我就考虑，在北美这样大片的土地上，有多少地方需要我这样的人才呢？——苗族文化专家。通过“研究”，我发现，全北美只有一个地方需要，就是哈佛大学、人力学系、这位老师。所以，如果全北美只有一个机会，他的目标里只有我一个人，那么这个机会对我来说是百分之百的！但是，五年之后，我仍然处于一个非常劣势的地位。我如果能在哈佛大学拿到学位，接下来的梦想就是当上哈佛大学的教授、终身教授。美国大学关于终身教授的规定：只要这个教授不去世，你就别想替代他。我想，万一我六十岁就“夭折“了，那位教授八十多岁还健在，我也还是助教。想到这儿，我就对那位教授说：“I want to learn something different。”

当时是1990年，计算机在美国变得popular。而且招生的指标还有70个，我觉得这是个attract opportunity，于是决定学计算机。如果学计算机，我就可以成为一个“计算机科学家”，就可以make money。但当时，我已经十年没摸过数学了，计算机也从来没有接触过。我想，我能不能学计算机呢？我用亚里士多德的“三段论”来推导这个问题：计算机是人发明的东西，凡是人都应该懂人发明的东西。最后，如果我学不了计算机，我就不是人。得出这个结论之后，我就要做一些实际的调查，看一看计算机到底是什么。我到了纽约最大的书店，看看计算机架上到底有些什么书。其中有两架书，

记得上初中的时候，有一次刚下了体育课，作为科代表的我去办公室抱作业本，一进门就见倪子庆老师正埋头忙着处理学校里的一些什么事物（他是我们班的生理卫生老师，也是学校的教导主任）。倪老师见我满头是汗，便放下手头的事情，递了一张毛巾给我，微笑着叫我擦擦汗。他又顺手拿起书桌上的茶杯，倒掉里边的剩水，又用水壶里的热水洗了洗，然后倒了满杯的冷开水给我。他见我愣着不喝，就微笑着说：“那是我的茶杯，平时只有我用的，才洗过……”我一下觉得心里热乎乎的，一仰头便把一杯水都喝个精光，连声谢谢也忘了说，便一把抱起办公桌上的作业本走出了办公室。

读师范校的时候，有一位全校学生都十分敬仰的女老师，她叫李碧波，是我见过的最棒的地理老师。她和蔼可亲、风趣幽默、每堂课都很精彩。我对地理产生兴趣，那可全是她的功劳。求学这么多年有两本笔记本我一直都收藏着，几次调动搬迁都舍不得“处理”，那便是她教我们时的地理笔记。

读初中三年级的时候，我读书特别用功，可是前两年太贪玩，再加上原本基础不大好，很多功课学起来都很吃力。学得最糟糕的或许就是代数和几何了，幸好那时遇到了杨力权老师，主动提出为我和班里另外两三个学习比较努力的同学义务补课。每天学校里晚自习一下课，我们几个便经常围坐在杨老师家简陋的厨房里，认真地听他讲解一道道数学难题。那样不知道坚持了多久，直到我们几个的功课都有了明显的进步。他最爱说一句：“只要你努力，肯定行的。”这么多年过去了，我常想如果不是那是几个老师的鼓励和帮助，我或许早已放弃了。工作后我也常用他那句来鼓励我的学生，尤其是那些一如我那年在学习上感觉吃力的学生。

中学毕业时连续两次参加中考结果都并不理想，第一次是学得不够扎实，第二次是因为状态没有调整好，总之都名落孙山了。我当然不愿回家种田，万般无奈又一次开始补读。接连的失败给我带来了前所未有的巨大的压力，有时真让人喘不过气来。那时的数学老师兼班主任的是学校里的副校长阿金老师，一个威信蛮高的老师。补习班的教学和应届的不大一样，主要任务就是查漏补缺。那时我们的作业量很大，同学们也大都很努力。阿金老师跟别的老师最不一样的地方在于，他对学习上比较努力自觉的学生给予了充分的信任。比如各种作业、练习，只要求我们做各自认为有点难度的题，其它的题可以一概不管。这样一来我们就省出了不少时间去阅读、休息、娱乐，然后轻松地迎接考试。

当年读中小学时养成了仿照范文来进行写作的习惯，那时有些老师还会要求把所谓的范文拿来背诵。为此刚去师范校读书时还出了一次丑。在师范校里教我们写作的是一个喜欢披着满头秀发的气质不错的名叫曹雪波的女老师。刚进校她就让我们用两节课时间写一篇命题很灵活的议论文。记得那次我苦苦熬了两节课，还是没有写出一段象样的文字来。末了，我竟然另外找了张作文纸，大名一写就破天荒地交了张白卷。第二天评讲完作文，曹老师好好鼓励了我一番，没有半句指责，更没有当众羞辱，这让我好生感激。那之后每次习作上都有她详尽的点评和亲切的鼓励。因为她，我的写作才开始有了起色，并且我渐渐喜欢上阅读了。

在电视台那段时间，魏老师鼓励我大胆地去操作，在拍摄中，从调白平衡到选取镜头，魏老师都是亲手来教我，魏老师还带着我一起去采访。在那一段时间，和我的搭挡一起制作了属于我们自己的节目，在观看我们自己制作的专题栏目时，我们的心里都是美滋滋的。但是，有一次采访，让我觉的惭愧，当时的一期节目中，要采访一位肺结核的病人，当时，我和搭挡对于结核病都一丝惧怕，在摄拍时，离那位病人好远。最后，拍摄出来的镜头，既不清楚，又晃动的厉害，魏老师拿到带子后，没有责怪我们，而是自己重新去拍了一组镜头。从魏老师的身上，使我知道了，我们必须认真的去作每一件事情。

在当学生记者的一年里，我学到了许多的知识，魏老师他们无私的奉献，更让我感动，一起带着我们去采访和一步步教我编辑节目的情景，一直浮现在我的记忆之中。还记得，在毕业前夕，宣传部老师对我们的祝福。毕业了，告别了难忘的大学生活，离开了美丽的大学校园，毕业一年后，当我接到魏老师的电话时，我没有想到，魏老师还惦记着我们，当她知道我们也成为一名光荣的人民教师时，在电话中，我能感觉到她比我们都还要高兴。“谢谢您，魏老师！”在远方的学生会永远记住您对我的关心和帮助。

i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.

but one hundred years later, the negro still is not free. one hundred years later, the life of the negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. one hundred years later, the negro lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. one hundred years later, the negro is still languished in the corners of american society and finds himself an exile in his own land. and so weve come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.

in a sense weve come to our nations capital to cash a check. when the architects of our republic wrote the magnificent words of the constitution and the declaration of independence, they were signing a promissory note to which every american was to fall heir. this note was a promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, would be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. it is obvious today that america has defaulted on this promissory note, insofar as her citizens of color are concerned. instead of honoring this sacred obligation, america has given the negro people a bad check, a check which has come back marked insufficient funds.

but we refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. we refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. and so, weve come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice.

we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. now is the time to make justice a reality for all of gods children.

it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. this sweltering summer of the negros legitimate discontent will not pauntil there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. nineteen sixty-three is not an end, but a beginning. and those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to busineas usual. and there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights. the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

but there is something that i must say to my people, who stand on the warm threshold which leads into the palace of justice: in the proceof gaining our rightful place, we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterneand hatred. we must forever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. again and again, we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

the marvelous new militancy which has engulfed the negro community must not lead us to a distrust of all white people, for many of our white brothers, as evidenced by their presence here today, have come to realize that their destiny is tied up with our destiny. and they have come to realize that their freedom is inextricably bound to our freedom.

we cannot walk alone.

and as we walk, we must make the pledge that we shall always march ahead.

we cannot turn back.

there are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, when will you be satisfied? we can never be satisfied as long as the negro is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of police brutality. we can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain lodging in the motels of the highways and the hotels of the cities. we cannot be satisfied as long as a negro in mississippi cannot vote and a negro in new york believes he has nothing for which to vote. no, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters, and righteousnelike a mighty stream.

Driving is like running without foot, racing without strength. It’s the most meaningful way to meet human being’s desire of “faster”. When driving, I have to put all my spirit to. Operating a car at ease will cost years of experience.

Driving will take me to my wanting destination, no matter it rains or snows or winds. I never am afraid of shoes wet, umbrella broken or ears frozen. A car is rather like a moving house, which protects me completely and helps me rush directly to the aim hanging ahead. That suits my nature perfectly: love to take risks conservatively. A smooth ride in a good car is an enjoyable satisfaction. Seeing rows of trees moving backward rapidly, a feeling of stepping forward will fill fully in my mind. With music hovering, breeze blowing, my soul flies in the air.

I was always sick when took a ride of a car, especially when I was young. Father told me that a driver would never have carsick. That may be one of the important reasons for me to desire driving.

This summer I am going to learn driving and get my car license. The dream with all my heart will follow the promise it had made.
